Transfer of radionuclides into dairy products
Keywords:radionuclides, pollution, food chain, milk processing
The possibility of environmental radioactive pollution, unexpectedly, has become more certain in recent years. Considering the vulnerability of the food production cycle in such situations, it is useful to analyze the existing knowledge about necessary measures for prevention and protection of food production systems. Milk processing is one of the recommended measures in the dairy industry during radioactive contamination, which might be used for mitigation of contamination in milk production. The aim of this paper was to collect the existing data from previous research related to the contamination of dairy products and results from the previous studies on the distribution of radionuclides during milk processing into the most important milk products. Obtaining and summarizing this type of data is of practical importance for producing safe milk products from a potentially contaminated environment.
